Photographing Milky Way and The Moon

Single exposure of 30 second shutter time and iso 3200.

It was a Crescent Moon, so it wasn’t too bright to blow out the Milky Way. The moon is too bright to be captured together with the milky way when it is brighter than half moon, it would be very difficult to do it in single exposure.

The camera setting for this image is similar to setting for milky way, I left the moon overexposed to make it looks like a full moon while the milky way is still (barely) visible. Then I processed it in Lightroom, the key adjustment is gradient filter to adjust the top half of the image to higher brightness and contrast so that the milky way is more visible.
